PCMAN – Universal style apps are fairly new on Windows Store, and not all of them are as powerful as their traditional counterparts. However, Windows 10 apps have a few key advantages built in such as: they can be updated through the Windows Store; they work well with the built-in media controls; and their interfaces support touch input by default. So which are the excellent apps for Windows 10?
Netflix. With its own style of interface across different platforms, Netflix nailed it with its interface for Windows 10 app. It has a big, friendly buttons that looks great on home theater PC, or a second monitor. Users may use keyboard media control to pause, skip ahead, or turn down the volume in the middle of the show.
Plex. One of the favorite apps, Plex is a Windows 10 app to stream your own media. Big poster art and thumbnails really help makes the app look great as a home theater PC app, or for simple library browsing. Media controls also work natively with the app, which makes it stand out from the Plex web interface. They also have made the design quite consistent with Plex on other platforms, thus making it easy for Plex veterans to navigate Plex.
VLC. VLC may never won an award for its interface, but it has always been known for being able to play anything that one throws at it. However, its slick app designed for Windows 10 may be the game changer. It, frankly, looks better than the normal VLC Windows app, and unlike the basic VLC app, user can use this app to manage their media library. They are able to complete it with album art, thumbnails and cover photos. It may not as feature rich as the regular app, however, it really get the most basic tasks done.
Adobe Photoshop Express. People with design background or photography as one of their passions will get all the fun with this Windows 10 app. This free photo editor, Adobe Photoshop Express, finally shares the functionality with desktop users. This free app can do basic fixes such as crop, color correct, filters, and reduce noise in a simple interface. It is definitely not going to replace the more professional Photoshop CS6, however, users can now do their basic photo edits to get the job done.
Wunderlist. This app does not only look gorgeous, but it automatically adjusts to the user’s window size, optimizing on the fly for the space the user has available. Users may shrink the window and get a more compact interface, and make the window bigger to have more buttons and space to work with. Although, there are still rooms for improvements such as adding the capability to sign in with Google, which is one of the benefits of being a Universal app, that can be improved by Wunderlist.
