5 Reasons Small Businesses Should Move to Cloud

By | Article | No Comments

Perhaps thousands of startups are starting to operate each year, and there could be several things that they have to be able to handle at once. With generally limited budget, startups should find the most efficient way to operate their business, and using cloud could be one of the solutions. Here’s why small businesses should consider moving or starting their business from Cloud:

Location flexibility. As long as you have got an Internet connection, with Cloud computing, anyone can be at work. Besides that, with most serious Cloud services offering mobile apps, users aren’t restricted by which device they have access to. With the flexibility of the location, businesses can offer more flexible working perks to employees—where they can enjoy the work-life balance better as well as staying on top with productivity.

Document control. Collaboration at work is unavoidable, and small businesses need to be able to cater this need too. With Cloud, document collaboration is made easier and way simpler than before. It also gives the ability for people to work and collaborate with others in different time zones and regions. Considering that all files are stored centrally where everyone sees one version, it would improve collaboration—which means better work and bigger chance to become more global. Something that small businesses would like to move forward to.

Security. Cloud computing gives small businesses greater security towards the loss of an expensive piece of kit and the sensitive data inside it. Data is stored in the Cloud, which makes it highly accessible despite things that could happen to your machine. Users can also remotely wipe data from lost laptops so it doesn’t get to the wrong hands.

Competitiveness. When small business moves to the Cloud, it gives everyone access to enterprise-class technology. It will also allow them to act faster compare to the other big, established competitors. Pay-as-you-go service and Cloud business applications mean small outfits can run with the big players, and disrupt the market, while remaining lean and nimble.

Environmentally friendly. Small businesses do not need to worry about their business fluctuation. With cloud, when your business needs to fluctuate, the server capacity will scales up and down to fit. Users only use the energy they need, and do not leave oversized carbon footprints. These little things can be the strong points of small businesses.

5 Considerations for Cloud Backup and Disaster Recovery

By | Article | No Comments

Nowadays, with all of the modern gadget and technology, data backup and recovery solutions have moved from traditional hardware-dependent solutions to Cloud-based solutions. Cloud is slowly becoming more accepted by the public and private sector, however, there are still some concerns about moving data to the Cloud and relying fully on the system.

Businesses with important data and high requirement for privacy and protection have to feel secure with the Cloud service that they are using. IT managers may also be looking at a combination of data backup and recovery solutions just in case disaster happens.

With that being said, IT managers need to make sure adding, or further integrating Cloud recovery will become one of the main focus while using the Cloud servie. There are several things that businesses should consider before moving into an advanced cloud-based recovery solution.

Cloud cost analysis. Perhaps the number one key that most of us would consider—budget. Pricing considerations should include the backup and recovery files, databases, server images for both physical and virtual servers, and auditing. Businesses should really think about their responsibilities for new services, as well as its additional costs.

Determining desired backup speed. In backup and recovery, speed is an important key. A high-speed data transfer rate will give businesses a much better shot ensuring systems and applications with minimal disruption.

Transitioning from hardware-focused approach. As most of us would agree, moving to a direct-to-cloud approach eliminates the need to wait for a hardware appliance. It accelerates data recovery and enables businesses to recover data in the Cloud without having to wait for an appliance replacement when a disaster event occurs. This is an important key to think about.

Setting recovery time objective. It is important to consider how long a business can go without having access to data while developing a Cloud-based back up and recovery platform. Setting a recovery time objective will help IT managers to set the parameters in backup and restore.

Providing an efficient user experience. Cloud recovery solution should be manageable from any agency location—that’s for sure. Managers should be able to log in via the web and commence a restore when disaster happens. In an ideal situation, there should be the expectation of 24/7 technical support.

5 Reasons Why Businesses Should Move to Cloud

By | Article | No Comments

PCMAN – In the past, people used to run applications and programs from software downloaded on a physical computer or server in their building. With the new technology, Cloud computing can now allow people to access the same kinds of applications through the Internet.

So far, Cloud computing has been solving challenges faced by small businesses. From firing off emails on the move to using various apps to help people manage their workload, Cloud computing has became the new normal.

Why would businesses move to the Cloud? Here are some of the best reasons why businesses should start moving to the Cloud.

Flexibility. Growing businesses with fluctuating bandwidth demands will get the most out of Cloud-based services. Usually, growing businesses will have their needs increased easily—and by using Cloud, they are able to scale up their Cloud capacity according to their needs. The same thing applies for when they want to scale down, Cloud has much flexibility to offer. This level of agility will give businesses using Cloud a real advantage over their competitors.

Disaster Recovery. Smaller businesses usually are still lack of cash and expertise to invest on robust disaster recovery. However, Cloud can now help more organizations with its disaster recovery. According to research, small businesses are twice as likely as larger companies to have implemented Cloud-based backup and recovery solutions. By doing so, they save time, avoid large up-front investment, and roll up third-party expertise as part of the deal.

Automatic Software Updates. With Cloud computing, servers are off-premise. Suppliers will take care of them for you, and they will also roll out regular software updates. Users no longer need to worry about wasting time maintaining the system by themselves. They will be having more free time to focus on things that actually matter for their growing business.

Capital-Expenditure Free. Another fantastic benefit of Cloud computing is that it cuts out the high cost of hardware. Users simply pay as they go and enjoy a subscription-based model that is quite cash flow-friendly. On top of that, the setup and management will not be one of the things you should worry about anymore.

Increased Collaboration. With Cloud, the whole team are able to access, edit, and share documents at any time, any location they are currently at. Cloud-based workflow and file sharing apps will help increase productivity and the quality of collaboration of your business. It will give them full visibility of collaborations.

4 Windows 10 Universal Apps Worth Using

By | Article | No Comments

PCMAN – Microsoft has made Universal Apps for its Windows 10—and they have made a big deal about it. Some developers are still working their way into creating an app version for Windows 10, however, there are some quick developers who have developed the new versions.

Despite being fairly new, the Universal Apps can be found in the Windows Store, and there are some advantages that users should know. First of all, Universal Apps can be updated through the Windows Store. Microsoft has made it easy for developers to update their apps through Microsoft’s store, which makes the process easier and safer.

Secondly, Windows 10 has improved the way its on-screen media controls work. Thus, the Universal Apps work well with the built-in media controls. Whenever the user adjusts the settings, such as volume or media button, they will see an overlay popup that allows them to do several other gestures.

Lastly, Universal Apps interfaces support Microsoft’s touch input feature. Despite the fact that most Windows devices aren’t touch-enabled, the apps already support the feature that will become bigger in the next few years. They look great and have more features available.

So what are some of the Universal Apps that is worth downloading on Windows 10? Below are only a few of the good ones that are worth the look.

Dropbox. For other versions, Dropbox does not have an app in the traditional sense. They are just a version of the software that acts as a syncing services that runs in the background. However, the Windows 10 Dropbox app is a powerful file manager and browser app. Users can explore their folders, see previews of their files, and manage their Dropbox settings like camera upload and account security. This can become very useful for users who commute a lot, and depends its files on this particular service.

Calendar (Stock App). Microsoft has a built-in Calendar app, and it is one of the best stock apps around. Users can use this app to manage their Outlook, Exchange, Google, or iCloud calendars. The user interface is beautifully designed, and it works with Windows 10’s new notification center. It will send the user alerts on their desktop when an important meeting is coming up.

OneNote. The OneNote Windows 10 app has a different approach compare to other note-taking apps. It uses a ribbon-style menu without the clutter and confusion of all the tiny icons cramped into a small space. The app could be a nice look into what Windows 10 apps could look like in the future.

Xbox. Xbox has a pretty awesome Windows 10 Xbox app where users can check out their profile, chat with friends, start voice chat, and even record their games with this app that has already built in to Windows. Even better, the game recording features aren’t limited to Xbox games or even games at all, so it could be a basic screen recording app as well.

Satya Nadella on How Microsoft Can Beat the Shrinking PC Marke

By | Article | No Comments

PCMAN –  Although there are several encouraging quarterly results by now, Microsoft is still going through a tough turnaround process in a touch market. Reportedly, windows OEM revenue, or the cash it generates by selling the Windows operating system wholesale to PC manufacturers, was down 5% in constant currency from the previous quarter.

The PC market has been slowing over the time, and the 5% dip is better than the overall drop. Microsoft stated that that’s the cold comfort—especially since the market is projected to go flat next year.

Microsoft has also made a major goal of getting Windows 10 on to 1 billion devices by 2018, however, the slow PC sales growth is also slowing down the progress of the major goal.

Looking at the situation, Microsoft CEO SatyaNadella have gave hints on how exactly Microsoft is going to respond towards the situation during an earnings conference call last January. He stated that Microsoft are clear that long-term Windows growth and vibrancy rests on their ability to reinvent personal computers and personal computing.

Surface Tension
Satya Nadella focused on several particular products, which breathed new life into the laptop/tablet 2-in-1 market, such as the Microsoft Surface. In just the last quarter, the Surface business booked $1.35 billion in sales, mostly because of the new Surface Pro 4 tablet and Surface Book laptop.

There are several companies like Dell, Lenovo, HP, and Samsung who are producing their own takes on the Microsoft Surface concept. They have tried to push them to their own customers, just as Microsoft are pushing Windows 10 into more hands.

Experts think that these devices making a dent in the market, and analyst firm IDC even estimated that if they factor in those 2-in-1 devices, PC sales were actually flat, and not down.

Nadella stated that he has focused on offsetting the shrinking market by continuing Windows 10 itself more enterprise friendly with new security and other compliance features. He hoped that it will encourage more of the crucial business market to take the plunge and upgrade. He also wanted to help developers to make more money with Windows 10, which will attract more apps to the Windows Store.

Nadella also stated that he wants to keep working with Microsoft’s PC manufacturer partners to come up with new kinds of computers. Bottom line, Microsoft has accepted the challenge, and ready to approach a whole new market category.

5 Excellent Windows 10 Apps

By | Article | No Comments

PCMAN – Universal style apps are fairly new on Windows Store, and not all of them are as powerful as their traditional counterparts. However, Windows 10 apps have a few key advantages built in such as: they can be updated through the Windows Store; they work well with the built-in media controls; and their interfaces support touch input by default. So which are the excellent apps for Windows 10?

Netflix. With its own style of interface across different platforms, Netflix nailed it with its interface for Windows 10 app. It has a big, friendly buttons that looks great on home theater PC, or a second monitor. Users may use keyboard media control to pause, skip ahead, or turn down the volume in the middle of the show.

Plex. One of the favorite apps, Plex is a Windows 10 app to stream your own media. Big poster art and thumbnails really help makes the app look great as a home theater PC app, or for simple library browsing. Media controls also work natively with the app, which makes it stand out from the Plex web interface. They also have made the design quite consistent with Plex on other platforms, thus making it easy for Plex veterans to navigate Plex.

VLC. VLC may never won an award for its interface, but it has always been known for being able to play anything that one throws at it. However, its slick app designed for Windows 10 may be the game changer. It, frankly, looks better than the normal VLC Windows app, and unlike the basic VLC app, user can use this app to manage their media library. They are able to complete it with album art, thumbnails and cover photos. It may not as feature rich as the regular app, however, it really get the most basic tasks done.

Adobe Photoshop Express. People with design background or photography as one of their passions will get all the fun with this Windows 10 app. This free photo editor, Adobe Photoshop Express, finally shares the functionality with desktop users. This free app can do basic fixes such as crop, color correct, filters, and reduce noise in a simple interface. It is definitely not going to replace the more professional Photoshop CS6, however, users can now do their basic photo edits to get the job done.

Wunderlist. This app does not only look gorgeous, but it automatically adjusts to the user’s window size, optimizing on the fly for the space the user has available. Users may shrink the window and get a more compact interface, and make the window bigger to have more buttons and space to work with. Although, there are still rooms for improvements such as adding the capability to sign in with Google, which is one of the benefits of being a Universal app, that can be improved by Wunderlist.

4 Reasons to Choose MicrosoftOffice 365 over Google Apps for Work

By | Article | No Comments

PCMAN – Google has launched a narrow approach on their Google Apps for Work. However, many argue that Microsoft delivers full-service productivity suit that will fulfill all of one’s business needs. Many has also stated that Google Apps for Work leaves workloads unsupported, and its terms compromise data privacy. Meanwhile, Office 365 delivers excellent productivity capabilities and safeguards one can trust. Below are some of the reasons why users choose Office 365 over Google Apps for Work.

Innovative

It is argued that Google Apps for Work can only offer narrow productivity experiences. It has been missing workloads, limited flexibility, and data at risk undercut that claim.

Being the most advanced version of the Microsoft Office suite of business productivity tools, Office 365 offers a complete set of capabilities within the industry, solutions across on-premises, cloud and hybrid environments, reliable controls, and ideal safeguards. It helps businesses reinvent their productivity, extend collaboration, and transform the way people get work done.

Trustworthy

Google has set important security capabilities such as data loss prevention, support for management, maintenance and security available through third party services with separate licenses and service level agreements. This situation wouldn’t be ideal for businesses with important data stored within the system.

Microsoft Office 365 offers built-in security, privacy features, and compliance safeguards that exceed all key industry standards, supporting FERPA, HIPAA, EU, and other compliance requirements.

Commercial Grade

Only delivered as online services, Google Apps for Work makes the user to move to the Cloud all at once with limited support and limited virtual flexibility.

Office 365 offers flexibility to build the productivity platform according to one’s business needs. Users may move to Cloud at their own pace, with minimal disruption to their current environment. With enterprise-proven reliability, transparency, and control, users may focus on supporting their business.

 Complete Solution

Many have argued that Google Apps for Work’s approach to productivity is too narrow for some enterprises. It does not support business intelligence or enterprise content management.

With Office 365, users will get benefit from its most advanced productivity service such as enterprise productivity workloads for documents, spreadsheets, presentations, project intranets, business intelligence, enterprise content management, messaging, and universal communications in one place.
